While serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in a tiny village in Kenya called Miti Mingi, Phil Hughes was surprised to learn that on average farmers only sell up to a third of their harvest. The vast majority of fruit remains unsold and is left behind to rot. After learning that drying fruit opens new markets, creates jobs for the local community, and extends the life and prosperity of the food supply, Phil was inspired to create Mavuno Harvest.
Our mission is to develop and invest in a food system that fosters mutual support for the people along the entire supply chain. Our goals are to:
•Increase incomes for farmers of delicious, healthy and organic foods in developing countries.
•Pay our farmers and producers a fair price for their products and help them build their businesses.
•Deliver high quality, organic, and sustainably sourced and grown foods to the American consumer at an affordable price.
