Eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. Products!
This Brand Feature was actually recorded last February, when it just so happened that my family and her family were in Cabo at the same time. My oldest daughter Sadie (who you often see featured on our page, on Sweet Apricity page, and on Instagram) helped to babysit her young daughter on the beach in order to make this interview happen. It was amazing to meet like this and we didn't mind taking time from our beach week to make this interview happen.

Sandra: Hey everybody, this is Sandra with ShopAIP. Once again coming to you with a brand feature, but this time it's something special because I am here live in Cabo with….
Kerry: Kerry from Eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. We happen to be down here as well, just vacationing. And I'm excited that we were able to connect and, and get to do this interview here.
Sandra: So why don't you tell me first, who are the founders? Where did you start and when did you start?
Kerry: Eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. was founded in January of 2020, right before Covid and it was founded by me, Kerry Brown and Heather McDonough, my 50/50 business partner.
Sandra: Awesome. And where were you?
Kerry: We were actually in my New York City apartments. We were just getting to know each other again as friends and she was teaching me how to bake and it was just in my kitchen and we would just learn how to make different cookies and stuff and, and so it was right there in the city.
Sandra: Awesome. And what was your inspiration for starting Eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R.?
Kerry: You know, at that time about eight months prior to launching EAT G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R., I decided to endeavor upon the AIP diet. I had, I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes 10 years prior and then was told that I had a, a lump on my thyroid and was having some other health issues. And so I entered into the AIP diet to try to see if I couldn't figure out something with that. At the same time, my business partner, Heather, was coming to New York City to bring her daughter to school. And while we had known each other for 20 years, we hadn't really talked except via Facebook.
And so when I reconnected with her, I learned that she was not only a nutritional therapy practitioner, but also an AIP coach. And so she sat down with me in the kitchen and just started teaching me how to cook and bake because honestly I had never baked a cookie. I had never baked a cake, I had no experience at all. So we had the best time burning cookies and having some successes and so yeah, that's, that's kind of how, how it all started.
Sandra: That is amazing. I love it. And so similar to me. I always tell people like even when I had all the ingredients in the world, I didn't bake with them. So now that I am restricted in ingredients, I'm definitely not out there baking. So I just so appreciate all the brands that are out there making these mixes to make it possible for me. So what is in your mind, what are some of the ideal pairings that you would put your products with, whether it's two of your products together or somebody else's product, or a fresh food or drink? What do you think works the absolute best with your products?
Kerry: Yeah, well, you know, we, we often have suggested add-ins like raisins or carrots or what have you, to shred carrots into some of the into some of the mixes. But, you know, there's actually some awesome AIP brands out there that are fun. Like I've done Sip Herbals a lot with the tea, with the cookies.
Sandra: That's awesome. All right. We're excited to try that. And what is your favorite product? Is that taboo to say or is it like picking a favorite child for you?
Kerry: Well, thank God I only have one [child] so I don't have to do that, that part <laugh>. As far as our products go, I think probably oatmeal, schmoatmeal, which I think is a lot of people's favorites. Yeah. it just, it tastes like the real thing to me and I don't know, it just, it just tastes legit <laugh>. That's, that's amazing.
Sandra: Yeah. I do love that one as well. I, I think you're right. I think that's a pretty popular one.
Kerry: So versatile two because I'll sometimes make like granola bars with it or you know, I'll use it as a crumble with like fruit and stuff.
Sandra: That's, yeah, that's some good ideas. And then what do we have to look forward to in the coming years? Do you have some plans coming out that maybe we get a little sneak peek info here?
Kerry: Yeah, we could do that. So one of, one of the things that, so I'm type one diabetic and one of the things that I've struggled with is, you know, we've, we have cakes and cookies, right? And while it brings me freedom and joy, which is all of our desire to do with within our company, I also can only enjoy a limited amount of those, right?
And so we've really been thinking about how can we kind of expand our product line into not just desserts, but rather daily foods that we might enjoy or that we might miss as people on AIP. So be on the lookout for some more savory types of mixes be quick breads or pizza crust or that, that, that kind of thing. Right.
Sandra: Great. And then what is one way for you personally that you like to be able to decompress, relax and like refresh after, you know, as we all know, sort of making these new things and getting 'em out there and having children and all the things that we have to do in life. What do you do to sort of take a step back from all that?
Kerry: I love doing yoga. I love getting a great steam or sauna in mm-hmm <affirmative>. It's where I do my best thinking. Like I'll listen to a podcast in the sauna and just sweat it out and just listen and I just, I love that those, those moments. So I do it pretty much on the daily. Awesome.
Sandra: That's amazing. I love it. And then what is something that your customers maybe don't know about, Eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R. that you wish they would know? Is there anything out there that you feel like there's a misconception out there that you wanna take the opportunity to, to educate or clear up?
Kerry: Sure. I, I don't know if there's any misconception. I think that more than anything, I think I'd love for people to know that oh no tearing that, that, that we understand that, that we know what you're going through or at least have an idea. I've been on the hospital bed lying there wondering what's next? And then, you know, there's that part that's so hard and then that you need to overcome. But then from there, when you make the choice to do AIP versus say, you know, other drugs or do a combination or whatever you're doing it's, it's a hard road to do AIP and it's why we created our products because it is so, it can be so isolating and it can be such a dark time for people.
I mean, 90% of our customers are people dealing with Crohn's or MS or whatever and/or dealing with it for their children. And so I guess I just like everyone to know that we understand and that we're, we're on the path to creating more and more products that will help you feel like you're living a normal life and like your life hasn't been stripped away, but rather you can celebrate knowing you're eating amazing foods and taking care of yourself and feeling better hopefully, and, and all that stuff. So I guess that's what what I'd want people to understand.
Sandra: That's great. So I think that is a beautiful way to end this interview and I so appreciate Kerry taking time with me here in Cabo. How exciting. We've never met before, so this is our first time, so it's very exciting for us. All right, everybody, take care.
Kerry: Bye.
